Two Otherwise Distant Points consists of two channels of 8mm film looped continuously through two film projectors. I set up two cameras facing opposite directions on a very flat road outside an unnamed military base outside 29 palms. My partner and I each walked out to the visible horizon (the point where we were no longer visible to the naked eye). We began walking toward one another from this position, roughly one mile apart.
At fist, the scene appears to go on unchanged, but around the four-minute mark, a grey dot begins to appear on the horizon. The grey mark continues to grow and come into focus and by the 7-minute mark it is clear that the dots are actually two figures walking toward the camera. At the 8-minute mark the two figures walk off camera; for a moment the two projections are still, showing only the landscape before the two figures emerge on the opposite projection and continue to walk away until the figure disappears on the horizon.
